Don’t buy the wrong mattress protector and lose sleep as a result. Mattress protectors are not expensive but it makes all the difference in the world if you choose the right one. I have young kids so I’ve tried a lot of mattress protectors on several different size beds. To find the best waterproof mattress protector, read on for all the details you need…
Need a waterproof mattress protector in a hurry? This link is for you.
A mattress protector is such a simple item, but if you get the wrong one it can wreck your sleep. You don’t want to end up cranky for days on end as a result of sleep deprivation. The trick is to know what’s out there before you buy. Originally I didn’t do any research and I just started buying random mattress protectors for each bed as we needed them. This was a big mistake.
I have young children so it was really important to get waterproof protectors. One of my kids also gets really hot when sleeping at night so he needs a cooler bed environment. And the worst complaint of all from everyone in the family was when the mattress protector was loud. Let me explain…some mattress protectors are so thick and plastic-y that they make a crinkle sound when you sleep on them. No one likes this.
We all spend a lot of money on beds and mattresses but when it comes to finding the best waterproof mattress protector a lot of people fail to do their research (that was me previously). To protect your investment in your mattress and topper you really need to give priority to getting the best waterproof mattress protector as soon as possible.
If you have a new mattress you’ll want to protect it. And if you have kids or cats or dogs you’ll also want to protect your mattresses. If you find a protector you love you might want to buy it for all the beds in your home. But just remember different people have different sleeping habits so it’s worth considering a different protector for each bed.

The SafeRest Premium Hypoallergenic Waterproof Mattress Protector is the best waterproof mattress protector I’ve tried. It protects your mattress from coffee, water, urine, vomit and more.
The surface is a thin and soft terry cotton fabric. It has tiny loops in the fabric allowing it to breathe and circulate air. The manufacturer recommends washing this protector before you use it to allow the loops to open up.
Underneath this top layer is the waterproof membrane. It’s made from polyurethane which is breathable yet waterproof. I’m not quite sure how that is possible but maybe you’re a scientist and you know more about it than I do. All I know is that it works to keep your mattress safe from accidents yet it is pleasant to sleep on.
The Pros
This is the best waterproof mattress protector if you suffer from allergies or asthma because it is free of vinyl, PVC, phthalates or fire retardant chemical treatments. And it stops dust mites and bacteria from getting to your mattress and multiplying on it. By easily washing this mattress protector with your sheets in your washing machine you can keep your bed healthy and reduce allergy reactions in your family.
This mattress protector is thin enough so it doesn’t change the feel of your mattress or topper. If you have a memory foam topper or a pillow top you’ll still get the benefits from it with the SafeRest protector over the top.
The SafeRest protector is also quiet. Sure there is a little bit of noise if you move it and listen specifically for it but I find this protector is very quiet compared to other mattress protectors I’ve tried.
Some people in reviews say this protector is noisy. I find this interesting because I have had the opposite experience. I think they may be referring to the noise before the sheet is placed over the top. I find that once a fitted sheet is placed over the top of the protector there is minimal crinkle noise from it.
The SafeRest Premium Mattress Protector is a fitted sheet style with the elastic right around the edge to give you a good smooth fitting over your mattress.
Personally, I’ve found this is the best waterproof mattress protector for our family. But when I was scanning through the reviews on Amazon for this product I then realized we’d never fully tested it. There are people who have given birth on this mattress protector! Obviously they didn’t intend for it to happen, but when it did they found their mattress was fully protected and the mattress protector didn’t allow any fluid or mess through to the mattress. I was amazed to read this. I think that is a true test of a good mattress protector – don’t you?
The Cons
Some people find this is not the best waterproof mattress protector because they find it hot to sleep on at night. My son gets hot at night when sleeping so I do understand this problem. We haven’t experienced this problem of it being hot and I think it is because of the sheets we use.
In our home I make sure we have the correct sheets for the season. Flannel sheets are notoriously hot to sleep on. In summer if your bed is hot you may need to try using the sheets that are cooler and also sheets that absorb moisture if you sweat at night. Let’s face it we all sweat on hot summer nights so cooler sheets are best for everyone.
A lower thread count sheet is better for air circulation. Buying pure cotton sheets with 300 thread count is good for hot nights. Of course, cotton is better than fibers like polyester. Make sure you use 100% cotton sheets and not a “cotton rich” blend.
Linen sheets are also good for staying cooler while you sleep. They are more expensive than cotton but they will last for decades. They’re a good investment is you want a cooler sleeping environment. Linen bed sheets get softer the more you wash them. Most linen sheets can still be machine washed for convenience.
If you want to reduce problems with sweat at night we find bamboo sheets are good for this. They are softer than cotton sheets and they absorb moisture better.
☑ SafeRest Classic Hypoallergenic Waterproof Mattress Protector
The SafeRest Classic is very similar to the SafeRest Premium Protector. The main differences are price and fabric.
⇒ SafeRest Premium Mattress Protector vs SafeRest Classic Mattress Protector
So, what’s the different between the Premium and the Classic? First, there is a difference in price. The Premium is more expensive. However, having said that, when there is a sale on the Premium protector it comes down to only a few dollars more than the Classic.
The Classic is also made from a different fabric on the top layer of the protector. It’s made from ultra thin knitted polyester. In comparison, the Premium is made from cotton terry fabric.
You will probably find the cotton top a lot cooler to sleep on. This is what we find in our family. However, I know plenty of people who are happy using polyester sheets, so a polyester mattress protector is not a problem for them.
If you’re happy with polyester as the top layer and you want to save some money then the SafeRest Classic Mattress Protector is the best waterproof mattress protector for you.
It is still waterproof. It’s hypoallergenic and it contains no phthalates, vinyl or PVC’s. The Classic also suits people suffering from allergies because it works in the same way as the Premium to reduce dust mites, bacteria and dust getting to your mattress. It is machine washable.
Similar to the Premium, the SafeRest Classic Mattress Protector is a fitted sheet style with the elastic going around the edge of the protector. This provides a tight and smooth fitting over the mattress.
